The hugely successful regional Fortnite tournament Battle of the Boroughs is back…and it’s bigger than ever.

Beginning October 21st, players from the NY metro area can sign-up to again compete for local bragging rights, a $50,000 prize pool, and a shot at redemption after Long Island emerged victorious from the inaugural Battle in July. Except this time, it’s every person for themselves in a solos format. Andbox Battle of the Boroughs featuring Fortnite has expanded, with Connecticut residents eligible to compete in addition to players from Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, the Bronx, Long Island, Upstate New York, and New Jersey. Players will compete as individuals in one of nine groups, with each group made up of residents from one of these nine regions.

Competition Overview:

  • Solo players from the New York and surrounding area compete in Fortnite to crown the “Best Fortnite player in the region”.

    • Eligible Regions: Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Upstate New York, New Jersey, Long Island, and Connecticut (the “Regions”).

  • 3 stage Tournament progressing from open qualifiers, to finding each Region’s best, culminating in crowning a champion for the New York and surrounding area.

  • Players will compete in the Fortnite Arena Solos game mode

  • $18,000 awarded at the Regional Finals; and $32,000 awarded at Grand Finals

Individual Participants will compete in the Fortnite Arena Solo’s game mode. Free open entry for all eligible participants.

Players must be 13 years of age and reside in and play from one of the nine defined Regions.

Stage 1 – Regional Finals (11/14) @12PM

  • 9 total Regional Finals (1 for each nine defined competitive regions)
  • Top 100 players in each competitive region compete to score the most points across 4 Arena matches.
  • Top teams awarded entry into Grand Finals (Stage 3)

Stage 2 – Grand Finals (11/20) @4PM

  • Top 100 players across each of the Regions compete to score the most points across 8 matches to crown the Champion.
    • Each Region guaranteed to qualify a minimum of 3 players for the Grand Finals
    • Number of finalists from each Region will be proportionate to the number of registered participants in their Region.

Administration reserves the right to combine Regions for the Regional Finals in the event that the number of registered players does not sufficiently fill custom lobbies.

Match Rules

Stage 1 – Regional Finals (11/14/20 @ 12PM)

  •  Top 100 players from each Region compete in 4 Arena matches played against teams from the same Region. Points are awarded according to the Solos Scoring Schedule. Final placement determined by the aggregate score of those 4 matches.
  • Each Region guaranteed to qualify a minimum of 3 players for the Grand Finals
  • The remaining teams will be qualified proportionately to the number of registered participants for that Region.

Stage 2 –  Grand Finals (11/20/20 @4PM)

  • The top 100 players from the NY area will be awarded the opportunity to compete in the Grand Finals. Teams will play 8 Arena matches in the same lobby. Final placement will be determined by the aggregate score of those 8 matches. Points are awarded according to the Solos Scoring Schedule.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for participation in Battle for the Boroughs participants must:

  • Be 13 years of age or older as of 11/6/2020
    • If under 18 years of age at time of registration, participants must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate.
  • Be a resident of the Region’s as defined above (Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Upstate New York, New Jersey, Long Island, or Connecticut).
    • Participants are required to submit a valid photo ID for residency verification. If proof of residency cannot be provided the participant will be ineligible to participate.

Gameplay Rules

“Administration” is defined as any parties affiliated with Andbox contracted with the execution of the tournament.

  • Players will compete on the Fortnite Arena Trios game-mode
  • Players may play on any platform (PC, Xbox, PS4, etc.), but are responsible for their own internet connection and hardware/peripherals, and must have cross-play enabled to participate in any Administration assigned custom lobbies.
  • As a general rule, games will not be restarted for lag, latency, player disconnect, or hardware/peripheral issues. Exceptions to this may be granted if Fortnite Arena servers malfunction (e.g., to a crash, or multiple players disconnect) and the issue is identified in the early stages of a match (e.g., in the warmup period before players drop or before the players land on their initial drop into the map).
  • Administration has sole discretion to make rulings on a case-by-case basis
  • All rulings by Administration are final

Tie Breaker Rules

In the event teams have the same number of total points scored at the end of the stage, the following criteria will be used to break the total point tie.

Player with:

  • Most Total Victory Royales in the stage;
  • Most Total eliminations in the stage;
  • Highest average placement per match in the stage;
  • Another criteria under the discretion of management

Player Expectations

  • Players are expected to play to the best of their ability at all times during any match.
  • Sharing custom lobby codes with other players is prohibited and will result in disqualification from the tournament and any prizing
  • Players may be asked to submit a replay file of a match to verify scores
  • Players who place in the top 5 must remain in the game lobby until administration gives instructions to leave.
  • Pre-event admin support will only be available 10am-6pm ET Monday – Friday.
  • Once Entrants are confirmed for Stage 2 (Regional Finals) All entrants must provide proof of residency in the Region they registered for by submitting photo ID to Administration.
