First-Ever Andbox Battle of the Boroughs Featuring Fortnite Launches in New York with $50,000 Prize Pool

Battle of the Boroughs is Andbox’s New Platform Dedicated to 

New York Metro Area Esports Competitions

New York, N.Y., June 23, 2020 – –  Andbox, New York’s first and leading esports organization, announced today the Andbox Battle of the Boroughs featuring Fortnite that will give players in the New York metro area the chance to compete for local bragging rights and a $50,000 prize pool. This competition marks the launch of Andbox’s Battle of the Boroughs platform, which is dedicated to providing local players from the New York metro area with a world class format to compete in the games they love. 

“New York is home to some of the most fiercely competitive people in the world, and they’re never shy about letting others know their neighborhood is the greatest,” said Rohit Gupta, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder, Andbox. “We created Battle of the Boroughs as a new platform to give local communities across the New York area a way to showcase their skills and ultimately see them propelled to greater heights as a representative of the greatest city in the world. We’re incredibly excited to be kicking this off with Fortnite.” 

Andbox Battle of the Boroughs featuring Fortnite begins on June 27 and will culminate with the Grand Finals on July 24, with the competition being held entirely online. Teams will consist of three-players, with each team representing one of eight sub-regions of the New York metro area: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, the Bronx, Long Island, Upstate New York, and New Jersey. The Regional and Grand Finals will be broadcast live on Twitch, and each sub-region also serving as the bracket where they’ll begin competition. 

The introduction of Battle of the Boroughs is the most recent example of Andbox’s continued growth and commitment to celebrating gaming and esports in the New York metro area. Andbox is home to two top-tier professional esports teams, the New York Excelsior (NYXL) of the Overwatch League and the New York Subliners (NYSL) of the Call of Duty League. It is also active in the collegiate space, having hosted Overwatch, Call of Duty, and VALORANT tournaments this past April as part of its Spring Rally platform that brought together students from across the northeast, as well as nationally, and provided them the opportunity to showcase their skills. 

Andbox has also significantly expanded its digital presence recently by bringing on content creators such as CDNThe3rd, one of the top 50 most followed creators on all of Twitch (2 million) with over 4.5 million fans and followers across all of his social platforms, as well as Mike LaBelle, a multi-time FIFA national title winner.
