ANDBOX LAUNCHES NEW YORK’S FIRST-EVER VALORANT TEAM AS IT CONTINUES TO EXPAND THE NEW YORK ESPORTS SCENE
New York’s Leading Esports Organization Will Leverage
the Latest in AI and Data Analytics to Build Its Newest Team
New York, N.Y., September 17, 2020 – – Andbox, New York’s first and leading esports organization, today announced another major milestone in New York esports with the introduction of a new team that will compete professionally in Riot Games’ VALORANT under the New York banner.
This new team will be known as “Andbox” and will be coached by Matt “Warden” Dickens, a storied veteran coach and former player with 20 years of esports experience in Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), having won multiple events across the world. He will be joined by Assistant Coach Gordan “g0g1” Prošic, another long-time veteran of CS:GO. The first two players that together will form the foundation of the team’s competitive roster are former CS:GO pros Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker and Bradley “ANDROID” Fodor.
Dickens and Prošic will assemble the rest of the roster with the support of Aim Lab, a talent assessment software developed by neuroscientists at Statespace. Aim Lab uses AI and analytics to measure a player’s performance based on fundamental motor and cognitive skills. The Aim Lab team has developed a custom program specifically designed for VALORANT players that Dickens and Prošic will use to assess and build the team. Andbox will make the Aim Lab platform available to the public later this month so they too have the opportunity to try out for a position on the team. Andbox’s VALORANT team will ultimately consist of five players that will be signed to exclusive contracts.
“This marks a huge milestone as we are creating the first VALORANT team that will represent New York on the world stage,” said Rohit Gupta, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder, Andbox. “It will also be the first time that one of our professional esports teams will compete using the Andbox name. We’re proud to be the organization that gave New Yorkers professional esports teams that they could call their own in the New York Excelsior and New York Subliners, and we’re excited for what’s to come as we expand into this new game.”
“It’s incredible to be joining Andbox to launch its newest team and build a world-class professional roster from the ground-up in a truly unique way,” said Matt “Warden” Dickens. “Andbox has been the leader in putting New York on the map as a major esports and gaming hub, and I can’t wait for what’s ahead for us in VALORANT esports.”
Andbox has been powering the growth of esports across the New York metro area. It owns and operates professional franchises in the New York Subliners (NYSL) of the Call of Duty League and the New York Excelsior (NYXL) of the Overwatch League, who in 2020 became the first-ever New York esports team to host a home match in the city. The organization also recently announced that it will be helping open Andbox-branded, state-of-the-art new esports and gaming centers called Belong Arenas across the NY metro area in the near future as part of a new partnership with Vindex. Andbox was the first esports organization to ever host a collegiate VALORANT tournament this past spring as part of its Spring Rally program in April, and in June it launched the Battle of the Boroughs platform, which kicked-off with Fortnite.
Andbox is an award winning esports organization that brings people from across the New York metro area together to celebrate their passion for video games.
Andbox owns and operates the New York Excelsior (NYXL), New York’s first professional esports team and one of the founding franchises of Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch League, as well as the New York Subliners in Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty League. It has also created new platforms for amateur players to compete and showcase their skills, including Spring Rally for college students and Battle of the Boroughs for residents of the New York Metro area.
Andbox embodies New York’s reputation as a creative beacon and culture setter. The organization has won multiple industry awards for outstanding visual design, and brought high fashion to the gaming community with custom athlete lines and products with the likes of Undefeated, Nike and Public School. Andbox is also home to incredible content creators such as CDNThe3rd, a New York metro area native who plays a variety of games and is one of the top 50 followed streamers on Twitch, and Mike LaBelle, a multi-time FIFA national title winner and proud New Yorker.
