Rutgers wins NYXL ’19 Spring Rally
Rutgers Completes Reverse Sweep For Spring Rally Title
This April, Rutgers Esports (Rutgers University) pulled off an unforgettable comeback to take the title of NYXL’s Spring Rally Champion against rival NJIT Esports (New Jersey Institute of Technology). With their backs against the wall, Rutgers gave up the first two maps of the best of five series, but recovered gracefully to take the matchup to the first five-game set of the Spring Rally.
With everything on the line and nothing to lose for either team, the map chosen was Busan. After a grueling defense against NJIT Esports, Rutgers rallied to take both control points for what’s set a high bar for future Spring Rally finals. But the journey to crown a Spring Champion started long before the finals at Rutgers’ annual Scarlet Classic.
In March, NYXL announced a high stakes Overwatch collegiate tournament for the tri-state area. With over 50 schools invited to attend, each college rallied their students and fanbase to “cheer” for their team over the course of three weeks. When all was settled, the top 16 schools moved on to the bracketed round where they had the chance to compete for a $3,000 top prize (of a 10K prize pool) and a handful of practice sessions with NYXL. But that’s not all… Winning team members also received the opportunity to qualify for NYXL’s XL2 Academy, a professional Overwatch Contenders team.
Keep your eyes out for next year’s Spring Rally to be sure your team is “cheered” into the round of 16!
