FIFA 21: News, Rumors, Leaks and Ultimate Team

We finally got our first look at FIFA 21 during EA’s Play Live stream that took place on June 18, and while there wasn’t a ton of information from the trailer itself, a lot of news has come out since. With that news, rumors and leaks have been swirling around the internet as well, making it tough for FIFA players to decipher between what is confirmed and what is made up for hype. Well, allow us to clear the air, with the help of National FIFA Champion and host of Closing ‘Belle, our very own Mike LaBelle.

FIFA 21 Confirmed News so Far

The first thing confirmed for us was that FIFA 21 will be released on October 9th, a bit later than previous installments but something to be expected due to the COVID pandemic. Additionally,  FIFA 21 will be one of the most accessible FIFA’s yet, available not only on Xbox and PlayStation, but also on Steam as well. Unfortunately for all you Nintendo Switch players, you will only receive a FIFA 21 update on your current iteration of FIFA, which is a bit of a sleight.

Another good thing relating to accessibility: those who buy FIFA on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be able to port their game over to their next gen counterparts complete with their FIFA Ultimate Team progress. However, you won’t be able to carry over your career mode and pro clubs progress, meaning you may want to wait until the next gen consoles to get started on those modes.

You can also pre-order the game right now, with several different packages available for purchase:

    • FIFA 21 Standard Edition
      • Up to 3 FUT 21 Rare Gold Packs (1 per week for 3 weeks)
      • >1 Cover Star Loan FUT Item (for 5 FUT matches)
      • 1 FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick Item (Choose 1 of 3 player items for 3 FUT matches)
      • Special Edition FUT kits and stadium items
    • FIFA 21 Champions Edition
      • 3 days Early Access (play from October 6)
      • Up to 12 FUT 21 Rare Gold Packs (1 per week for 12 weeks)
      • 1 Cover Star Loan FUT Item (for 5 FUT matches)
      • Career Mode Homegrown Talent (local youth prospect with world-class potential)
      • 1 FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick Item (Choose 1 of 3 player items for 3 FUT matches)
      • Special Edition FUT kits and stadium items
    • FIFA 21 Ultimate Edition
      • LIMITED TIME OFFER: Untradeable FUT 21 Ones To Watch Item
      • 3 days Early Access (play from October 6)
      • Career Mode Homegrown Talent (local youth prospect with world-class potential)
      • Up to 24 FUT 21 Rare Gold Packs (2 per week for 12 weeks)
      • 1 Cover Star Loan FUT Item (for 5 FUT matches)
      • 1 FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick Item (Choose 1 of 3 player items for 3 FUT matches)
      • Special Edition FUT kits and stadium item

Quite a few options to choose from, with the Career Mode Homegrown Talent bonus being a new and controversial addition to these packages. Many people think this bonus diminishes the integrity of the mode, but we’re sure some people will be happy to have a talented addition to their squads.

FIFA 21: Rumors

Google Stadia all but tweeted out that FIFA 21 will be available on Google Stadia. With crossplay being an unlikely feature at launch (if at all this title, per EA), it’s unclear whether Google Stadia players will play other Google Stadia players or if the PC platform will allow them to play against Steam players.

Additionally, there are a lot of rumors swirling around Kevin DeBruyne being on the cover of the next game. This would be pretty controversial as many people, including Mike, feel someone on Liverpool should get the honor after winning last year’s UEFA Champions League and clinching the Premier League title this year. Also, with Hazard having been just on the cover, this would be the second Belgian in a row to receive the honor, which seems a bit unlikely. Many could also see Mbappe getting the honor after winning the World Cup and dominating Ligue 1 with PSG at such a young age, but it’s possible EA will wait to put him on knowing how young he is and how many chances he’s sure to receive.

FIFA 21: Leaks

There have been some leaks of questionable credibility swirling around the internet, one of which being that Chinese casting will be coming to the game as a language option after a tweet with FIFA 21 branding was released featuring casters recording audio of a goal celebration.

Additionally, screenshots of 4K gameplay are being periodically leaked on Twitter and Reddit. We will keep you up-to-speed one everything that comes out as it is released.
